Advocacy Alert: Proposed Budget Cuts to Seniors

The Mayor's Budget proposal includes significant budget cuts for older adults in Washington, DC. Make sure DC Councilmembers know how important services for DC's older adults and family caregivers are!

  • The Mayor's Budget proposal includes a budget cut for Seabury Connector senior transportation of nearly $500,000. This will mean fewer buses on the road offering fewer options and choices in transportation.
  • There is a proposed 2.9% cut to the Lead Agency/Aging and Disability Resource Centers' budgets.

Stuff the Shed Supply Drive

On Saturday, May 7, Age-In-Place® will hold its 3rd annual tool and supply donation drive, "Stuff the Shed." This year we are partnering with Annie's Ace Hardware, and will hold the event at the new Brookland location at 3405 18th Street NE, Washington, DC 20017.

The Stuff the Shed drive allows Age-In-Place® to provide yard work and house cleaning services at no cost. Your donations keep us stocked with essential supplies such as: large outdoor trash bags, disposable cleaning gloves, rakes, and garden gloves.  Can't make it on May 7 but still want to help?  Click here to donate!

May is Older Americans Month

Historically, Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge the contributions of older adults to our country. A meeting in April 1963 between President John F. Kennedy and members of the National Council of Senior Citizens led to designating May as "Senior Citizens Month," the prelude to "Older Americans Month." We look forward to celebrating Older Americans Month with you at two events this May:

Seabury Ward 6 Community Day - May 26, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm -
Greenleaf Senior Center

Seabury Ward 5 Community Day - May 19, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm -
North Michigan Park Recreation Center
