Re: cheat_training_group Saturday's Paddling

Everyone did great on Saturday! I was very pleased to see everyone making progress on their timing and aggressiveness with boofing! It was neat to see everyone sailing through the air, especially at the Bass Rock boof!

The boof where you sink your stern is called the Party Boof. It is really fun and can lead to some wild stern first landings. You need a boat with a low volume stern like an Axiom or Braap and it works well in a deep spot like Bass Rock. The Upper Yough has a bunch of good Party Boof spots and that will be a technique taught in the Upper Yough Advanced Skills clinic. The included picture is probably the best spot on the UY for this technique. As fun as it is, it really isn't useful in Class 5 situations though. :-)

For those of you interested in seeing the falls at the takeout being run, check out these two videos.

High water run at 14:00. Timing the boof stroke is everything!

Below is a link to an album with all the photos I took on Saturday – there are many more photos than were attached to my emails on Saturday.

Check out the photos and videos of some solid boofs - in a still photo you can see Bobby manages to sink his stern underwater at the boof:

There's also a video of Tom with a clean boof:

The photo web page has a button that lets you download full resolution photos to your computer or phone.  Let me know if you have any problems.  See you at the gates on Tuesday!

It is just a two-hour session. We will paddle from about 8:30 to 10:30.

This may not be feasible for me b/c of time constraints this Saturday.  I realize most everyone is on river time, but  any sense of when we'd be putting on and taking off the river?

Hello UY Trainers,

Just to bring you up to date on this Saturday's paddling.  As we talked about
Tues. and Wed. evenings, Bobby's inviting us all to enjoy a boofing-fest on one of his favorite workout areas - the Shenandoah near Harper's Ferry.

We would like to meet at 7:00 AM at the Gaithersburg Park-n-Ride to carpool (and reduce the number of cars) to Harpers Ferry.

From there we will drive to the Wayside Parking, on the right just across the Rt. 340 bridge.  The parking space is limited, but there is a gas station just across the main road for a momentary stop.  We are meeting early because the parking is so restrictive.

From there we will set shuttle.  Please be on time, so that we can succeed in having a shuttle vehicle or two at the take-out.

This should be a ton of fun!!    -  Tom
