DPW to Discuss New List of Materials to Be Recycled
During Live, Web Chat Thurs., June 29 at Noon
The Department of Public Works’ Office of Waste Diversion will host a Web Chat to discuss a revised list of materials that can be recycled. The purpose of the new list, which will go into effect January 1, 2018, is to provide a single, comprehensive list of recyclable and compostable materials for DC residents and businesses. The Web chat is just one of several methods the agency will use to outreach and educate the public about the updated recycling list.
In 2014, the District enacted the Sustainable Solid Waste Management Amendment Act of 2014, which requires the Mayor to issue a list of materials that are considered to be recyclable or compostable. The law will also require that solid waste materials be source-separated into three categories: recyclables, compostables (once a city-wide composting program is established), and trash. Effective, January 1, 2018, this list will inform District residents and property owners about the District’s mandatory recycling programs.
To participate in the session once it has begun, place dpw.dc.gov/livechat into the search browser or visit www.dpw.dc.gov and select the “Live Chat” option under “About DPW” at the top of DPW’s homepage. Transcripts of all chat sessions can be reviewed after the session by following these same instructions.
