DC Government to Hold Annual “Truck Touch” Sat., June 15 at RFK, Lot 7
The free, family-friendly event is city’s official summer kick off and offers something for all ages.
The DC Department of Public Works invites you to attend DC’s annual free, citywide “Truck Touch” Saturday, June 15, 2012, from 9 am to 2 pm at RFK Stadium, Lot 7. DC government agencies will demonstrate and explain the vehicles used to clean and repair streets, change traffic lights, fix potholes, clear snow, provide emergency services, and more. Mayor Vincent Gray’s official summer kick-off event will take place in the adjacent Lot 6 and will offer activities for youth of all ages, as well as family services and information from 9 am until 5 pm.
This is the city’s sixth Truck Touch, which is coordinated annually by the DC Department of Public Works. The event will feature vehicles from all DC government agencies that provide infrastructure support and emergency and medical services. Agencies that provide direct services also will be on hand to offer information and a wide variety of mobile services from health screenings to voter registration. Families can enjoy live music, skating, basketball hoop contests, Segway rides, electric and hybrid vehicle test drives, and much, much more.
We hope to see you there!

DPW Observes Memorial Day, Monday, May 27
Sanitation services and parking enforcement will be suspended. However, parking regulations will be enforced in the Nationals Stadium neighborhood. All services resume Tuesday, May 28.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today how services will be affected Monday, May 27, 2013, when the District observes Memorial Day. Trash and recycling collections and street and alley cleaning will be suspended. Parking enforcement will be suspended, except in the Nationals Stadium neighborhood. All services will resume Tuesday, May 28.
Trash/recycling collections: Trash and recycling collections in once-a-week collection neighborhoods will “slide” to the next day for the remainder of the week. In neighborhoods with twice-weekly trash collections, Monday and Thursday collections will be made Tuesday and Friday, and Tuesday and Friday collections will be made Wednesday and Saturday.
Parking Enforcement: Parking regulations will be enforced in the Nationals Stadium neighborhood. Elsewhere, DPW will suspend enforcement of expired meters, residential parking and rush hour lane restrictions. Also, booting, towing and abandoned vehicle removal will be suspended. Enforcement resumes Tuesday, May 28.
Ft. Totten: The Ft. Totten Transfer Station, located at 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE, will be closed. Residents may resume bringing bulk trash and recyclables on Tuesday, May 28, between 1 pm and 5 pm.
The next Saturday household hazardous waste/e-cycling/document shredding drop-off day is June 1, 8 am to 3 pm, (these services are available the first Saturday of the month, except holidays). To accommodate residents whose religious beliefs prohibit them from using the Saturday drop-off, DPW will accept only household hazardous waste and e-cyclables the Thursday before the first Saturday of the month (May 30, from 1 pm to 5 pm). DPW will not accept personal documents for shredding on Thursdays as there is no way to secure these items until the contractor arrives on Saturday.
Directions to Ft. Totten: Travel east on Irving Street, NW, turn left on Michigan Avenue, turn left on John F. McCormack Drive, NE and continue to the end of the street. For directions from additional locations, please click on http://dpw.dc.gov/node/414922.
