I would love to propose Myersville as a second meeting place - meeting at 7:15. It's exit 42 off 70, just past 270 - left off the exit, make the first left and it's on the left. I know there are a handful of people who find Gaithersburg out of the way.

Hi Everybody!!--Tonight, for the attainment, Irene Owsley has volunteered to take video of your forward stroke so Tom and the other instructors can give you some feedback. She will set up about 5:15. If you get there earlier, you can put in at widewater and work on some stroke drills with Pablo. The river is at 5.8 ft right now so we will be able to attain up the back channel and then out into the main river. After you have done your filming, please head up that way.For this weekend, we are going to the Cheat!! Now is the time to check out the gauge and start making predictions, taking bets, lighting candles, or whatever you do. (The gauge at Albright is roughly 10 feet above the commonly used one, painted on the bridge at the put-in... so subtract 10!) As we get closer to Saturday you will want to decide what boat you are comfortable bringing on the Cheat. If this is your first time and you haven't quite figured out how to turn your greenboat, you may want to bring your creeker. Our goal for the first weekend is to get everyone safely and happily down the river. If you are feeling good in your long boat then heck yeah, bring it!On Saturday morning we are meeting at 6:45 am at the Gaithersburg Park and Ride at Exit 11 on I 270. From DC, take exit 10, DO NOT GO TO EXIT 11. At the end of the ramp continue west on Clopper Rd. At the light turn right on to Quince Orchard Rd. Pass under the railroad bridge and turn right at the traffic light into the Park & Ride lot.If you are driving southbound on 270, just take exit 11 and go straight through the light into the Park & Ride lot.Our staff took a trip to the Cheat last Sunday and reports that the take out road is worse than it was last year. We recommend taking a car with some good clearance. Please try to carpool to the maximum.Directions to the Cheat put-in: take 270 north toward Fredrick. Take exit 32 to merge on to I70 W to Hagerstown. Merge onto I 68 W toward Hagerstown (this is a left exit). Take exit 23 Bruceton Mills. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp. You will drive past the gas station where you turn for the take out. Pass Teter's Campground. The put in will be on the right just before a bridge that crosses the Cheat. If you are meeting the group directly at the river, please try to arrive at 10:30 am. Drop your boats and passengers off here and just the drivers will run shuttle down to the takeout. My cell # is below in case anyone gets lost! We usually return to DC about 10 pm.Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Cheat Race, Friday May 2nd. It usually begins at 5:20 pm. Here is the website with info and results from last year: http://www.cheat.org/our-work/cheat-river-festival/cheat-river-massacre-ence-annual-downriver-race/ So awesome how many LAKS paddlers raced! and finished! It doesn't look like registration is available yet but I will keep you posted.See you tonight!Ashley McEwan
