PERRY SCHOOL CENTER ANNUAL KENTUCKY DERBY DAY PARTY
SLATED FOR MAY 3 AT THE PARK AT FOURTEENTH
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 17, 2014) - Perry School Community Services Center, a coalition of partners providing programs and services to youth, adults, and families in need in the District of Columbia is pleased to announce its annual Kentucky Derby Day Party, hosted by the Perry Center Young Leadership Council.
The annual event will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 4 - 7 p.m. at The Park at Fourteenth, 920 14th Street NW, Washington, D.C. Tickets are $25 if purchased in advance from the Perry Center website at www.PerrySchool.org, and $30 at the door the day of the event.
The event serves as a social gathering for young and old with proceeds from ticket sales and related activities going to support Perry Center Youth Development programs. These include our free After School Program that provides District children with enjoyable and interactive activities; our summer culture camp in association with Peace Thru Culture and the Department of Parks and Recreation, and our Home Instruction of Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) Program.
Our Derby Day Party celebration includes watching the famous 139th Kentucky Derby horse race, food and drink, as well as games, auctions, and prizes. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in their best Kentucky Derby outfits.
Tax deductible sponsorships are available, allowing supporters the opportunity to identify with the work and mission of the Perry Center. There are also many opportunities for members of the community to volunteer in preparation for this special event to help make it a success. Those interested in volunteering or supporting the event through a sponsorship are encouraged to contact the Perry Center via e-mail at events@perryschool.org or by calling (202) 312-7140.
Quinta Martin, Chairman of the Board of the Perry Center, stated this traditional event serves to "bring young people from diverse walks of life together to 'have fun' while 'funding' the vital work of the Perry Center serving youth in need." Martin also said, "For the past five years, the Kentucky Derby Party, organized by the hard work and dedication of the Perry Center Young Leadership Council, has been a testament to the commitment of so many in our community to the mission of Perry. We look forward to that continuing in our 2014 event."
