Hi LAKS Students!
We have put together a Gauley Training program that we are really excited about! The program will consist of 4 weeknight sessions in September, starting the week of 9/2. You choose Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. The focus will be on play boating or running big water in little boats. We have some guest instructors coming in to teach including Danny Stock, an all around amazing slalom boater, play boater, and creeker and Margaret Williams, a class V creeker who does some play boating, too. Margaret is one of the only women consistently running the Falls for the last couple of years. Perhaps she can pass some of that bad-ass on to us! Ashley Nee, Todd Henry, and some of our other beloved staff will round out the program.
If you qualify, you can attend one of the 3 Gauley trips this Fall- 9/13-9/14, 9/27-9/28, or 10/4-10/5. You will also be given a "paddling assignment" each of the weekends in September when you aren't on a trip. Written in the form of a blog, our instructors will give you something to practice and think about while making sure you are on the water at least 2x per week.
When you register, you will select one of the dates for your Gauley trip. Please then email the office and let us know what weeknight you want to sign up for. We are limiting the class size to 8 although there can be some switching around if necessary.

We will announce this tomorrow to all our students but I want to give you guys, our core of students and friends, some lead time on it. Thanks for all you have done for Tom and our family over the past couple of weeks! Here is one reason to get excited for the fall!
