[WardFive] LAYC's Foster Care and Unaccompanied Minors Program

Good Afternoon,

My name is Doreen Allen and I am the Family Resource Specialist at the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) located in Washington, DC.

LAYC is in great need of caring, committed and responsible adults to participate in our Foster Care and Unaccompanied Minor program. The United States is currently experiencing an unaccompanied minor crisis.  It is estimated that in 2014 an estimated 90,000 children will be apprehended by the US attempting to cross the US boarder, in addition in 2012, there was an estimated 399,546 children in foster care.

We are looking for Spanish and English speaking individuals who have space in their homes to care for children and youth, ages 0-21 years old who have been victims of abuse, neglect and or experience conditions that have force them to migrate.  Single adults or couples with or without children ALL qualify to participate. All of our children have been trauma-impacted.

These programs are designed to protect children and youth by giving them healthy and stable family life experiences for temporary periods of time. Our programs are also aimed at preserving the cultural identity of the child or young person by placing them in culturally sensitive homes, especially when there is a need for their native language to be spoken.

If you, or anyone you know, has space in their home and in their heart to help a child or teenager in your community, please contact Doreen Allen at 202.386-2623 or doreen@layc-dc.org.
