Bonds Supports Good Hope Road Upgrade in Southeast
D.C. Council member Anita Bonds (D-at-large) wants to make sure that Ward 8's Good Hope Road in Southeast receives as much economic attention as it needs to develop.
The council passed on Tuesday a Bonds-authored amendment to the 2015 budget that would allow small businesses along Good Hope Road from Anacostia Drive to Naylor Road to be able to join other city corridors to apply for and receive grants awarded by the office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.
"Job creation and increased opportunities for D.C. residents to enjoy a portion of the city's continued prosperity are priorities in [the fiscal 2015] budget," Bonds said. "This amendment allows one of our undeveloped economic corridors an opportunity to earn much needed assistance that has greatly benefitted a number of similar corridors throughout the District."
Businesses would be eligible for the program and the corridor could be eligible for the city's Great Streets program. Great Streets grants may be awarded to new or existing businesses for upgrades include facade face-lifting, developing businesses and the creation of jobs.
