Office of the President: Important Update | |
| October 3, 2014 Dear Howard University Community: I am writing to address concerns you may have about the risk of coming in contact with the Ebola virus at Howard University and its hospital. The D.C. Department of Health issued a statement this afternoon indicating that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in the District of Columbia. The Washington, DC Metro area is a major gateway for international travel and Howard University Hospital is carefully monitoring all reports regarding suspected cases of Ebola and patients displaying symptoms associated with the virus. Overnight, a low-risk patient was admitted to the hospital in stable condition, following travel to Nigeria. In an abundance of caution, we have activated the appropriate infection control protocols, including isolating the patient. Our medical team led by Dr. Shelly McDonald- Pinkett, chief medical officer, continues to collaborate with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the DC Department of Health. We will provide periodic updates as information becomes available. Sincerely, Wayne A.I. Frederick, M.D. President |
