Subject: Re: cheat_training_group Saturday PlansDear All,Some thoughts for our first run on Saturday:Saturday will be our first off-the-potomac training run this season, and it will be a long cold day. Reduce the challenges that you can control: take a boat you are comfortable rolling and handling, sleep well tonight, eat well for breakfast and have a pre-river snack handy, and hydrate well with water this evening and tomorrow morning. Everything else that follows is just a more detailed repeat of the previous sentence. For people who are stepping it up and aren't feeling comfortable with handling and rolling their long boats, please consider taking your creek boat or whatever boat you are most comfortable in (no play boats!).We usually end up putting on the river shortly before noon, so have a lunch ready to eat before that. I usually like to eat something substantial and protein-heavy about 2 hours before we put on. Know your own tummy and energy-level, and bring food accordingly.Drink water, and take water. Dehydration contributes more to hypothermia than not eating. So, hydrate please.River runs are often about 4 hours long, but can be longer for a first-run day. On the Cheat the tougher rapids are near the end - when people are most hungry, tired, and cold. Plan for that by bringing a snack that can be easily grabbed out of a pfd pocket and munched in an eddy. (no, we will not be having a picnic stop along the way - sorry).Don't tell me at the put-in that you went to bed at 4 AM because your friend had a stag party last night (yes, that's happened - true story. If you do it, don't tell me!)Anne, you are NOT wimpy - whatever you decide to do, we all still know that you kick butt!Looking forward to seeing you all Saturday for a really really fun day together!-jenOn Fri, Apr 8, 2016 at 12:34 PM, Anne Kibler <anne.kibler@verizon.net> wrote:Wish I were a CPA, too. Subject: cheat_training_group Saturday Plans
Hey all!
I am excited to have you all out on our first Saturday away from the Potomac! I am sure that all of you have checked the weather for the Cheat River area and have seen we are expected to have 80 degree temps and blue waters, just kidding... It would be cheat training without snow and cold weather! Saturday's forecast is a high of 33 degrees, 21 MPH winds, and 1-3 inches of snow. I personally love paddling in the snow, but we are nervous about the take out road.
Everyone check your email at 7 am tomorrow morning we might switch it up a bit depending on the information we receive from Cheat River Outfitters about the road conditions up there. We will look at river levels in the morning to see what else is running and let you all know the plan by 7 am.
No matter what please bring your winter paddling gear! We want to make sure you are all safe on the river and the best way to make sure your safe is to dress for the swim. Bring your ponies, neoprene hats, gloves, dry suits, and great under layers. I also recommend you all bring a dry bag with extra warm clothes in there in case you or a friend need them. If you all have a first aid kit, please add a space blanket, fire starter, and a lighter or matches.
Plan: We will be meeting at the Gaithersburg Park and Ride at 7 am to carpool up to the river. If you are choosing to drive to the river then please meet at the Kwik Stop gas station around 10:30. The caravan will be there around that time. If you drive up then drop your gear in the grass field to the right of the Kwik Stop and wait for Tom to get there to run shuttle. The plan right now will be to leave your cars at the take out and all hop in the bus back to the top. If your going to meet us at the take out then please be there at 11:30 ready to get on the bus and leave. Lets make sure that we all park at the take out respectively so that other people can park and the bus will be able to get in and out easily.
For those of you that live closer to Frederick I can pick you up at exit 42 of 70. The only issue is that I am staying up there through Sunday.
I cannot wait to get on a different river with you all! I hope that we can get to the Cheat, but if not we will have an awesome day no matter what! If I have missed anything please reply all back to let everyone know!
Remember check you email at 7 am for schedule changes!
PADDLE EVERYWHERE!

Re: cheat_training_group Is park and ride exit 11?
Sorry don't know what Exit it is. From 270 N take 117 West (Clopper Rd) then take right on
Montgomery Vil Ave (Rt 124).
It's on right after you go under the tracks.
Thanks,
