[WardFive] FW: Join us! 1st Public Meeting for VRE Midday Storage Facility Project

Neighbors,

After hearing concerns from the community on lack of engagement and responsiveness from the companies that use the railroad tracks that go through our ward, Councilmember McDuffie engaged in a series of meetings with those train operators last summer.

Among other outcomes, please see below for the first meeting of public engagement from VRE regarding the construction of a new facility in the rail yard just north of New York Avenue NE. The meeting is Feb 16 in Ivy City.

Regards,

Nolan

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the Virginia Railway Express Midday Storage Facility (VRE MSF) project is to replace the current storage space leased from Amtrak at the Ivy City Coach Yard in the District of Columbia. The project will include planning, designing, and constructing a permanent midday storage facility for VRE trains that travel to the District. The proposed facility will accommodate up to 20 trains, and will be used to store commuter trains on weekdays between the inbound morning commute and the outbound afternoon commute. VRE will work with members of the community, stakeholders, and property owners to assess potential impacts and determine ways VRE can be a good neighbor.
