[WardFive] TODAY: RALLY/PROTEST IN CONGRESS FOR DC AND FREEDOM FW: #HandsOffDC

Please take note of today's rally & protest outside Congress as DC residents, activist, elected officials, and friends of freedom and democracy demand equality for the residents of the District of Columbia.  Over 80% of DC residents voted for DC Statehood, but instead of hearing the people, Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz wants to strip DC legislators of the power to legislate on behalf of the people they represent by turning down laws passed by the DC Council, and signed by our Mayor.  This action is not only rejected by the people in DC, but by the Congressman's own constituents where he has been rejected at town halls in his home state of Utah.  Come join the resistance and help bring democracy to  nearly 700,000 tax paying citizens that are now second class citizens in the world largest democracy.

Neighbors,

On Monday, February 13, at 5pm I hope you'll be able to join the Hands Off DC rally & protest outside the House Rayburn Office Building on the south side of the building (Lower Park D - Spirit of Justice). This rally & protest will take place a half hour before the House Oversight Committee will mark-up legislation aimed at overturning the District's Death with Dignity Law. We need a large turnout to show Congress and the nation that we will not sit idly by whenever there is a threat to democracy in the District of Columbia. Please bring yourselves, your family, your friends, and your neighbors. Share this widely!!!

The hearing is set to take place at 5:30pm in Room 2154 of the Rayburn Building and is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Additionally, please take a few moments tomorrow to use the #HandsOffDC hashtag on Facebook & Twitter to help educate your friends and followers around the country about our plight here in the District and remind them that only statehood will set us free.

Hope to see you tomorrow as we stand together and stand up for all of us in the District of Columbia.

Thank you,

Josh
