Re: [WardFive] Race Relations Discussions

Mr. McGowan,

Very people showed up for a few reasons.

1. It wasn't planned properly.
2. It was raining
3. Sad but lots of truth to what you said.

a. The people who need to be there won't ever come forth to have this discussion -- and that's truly sad!!!

b. The issues that we have/having right now in this city mostly (almost all other than weather) based on racism --- years and years of it!!

c. Sad - Many Blacks don't come forth publically/vocally to fight for the rights that so many died to get and many of our older fighters are probably just tired.  That's why folks like Eric Jones gets to say that it's the same small group of folks ........  But trust and believe that if Whites like Luke did start asking their neighbors the type of questions that we address on this list serv, they will be shocked to hear the answer.

In the end, we can try to make the few changes and that's what some of us choose to do.  Right now, it is nice to know that 3 Whites showed up and we know they are ready to help continue the push forward.  Just imagine if we could all have that most important series of conversations with just one and convey the difference of being a Black Man or Woman in America.

A solution would be to have  Black community members initiate having the race conversation with their White Neighbors so that they can't continue to have that conversation.  That would be an example of being part of a diverse community - not just having various colors living/residing on the same "Block".  Think about it, how many folks have that "Black White" issue conversations.  Saying hello, talking about sports, planting trees, picking up trash and being at a Progressive Dinner is totally different than having THAT conversation.  See the type of thoughts that comes forth.

Mr. McGowan, as long as someone wants to have that discussion, we will attempt to make that happen.  So you get the full impact, until we get that spending 1/4 billion $$$$$ on 2 miles of Street Cars isn't really for us, then you will understand the racism involved.  You are welcomed to join us the next time we meet - even if it just once more.  In the end, your statement has merit and that's the Sad part of it.

Please tell me/us what are the other Challenges in the Ward that can be beneficial so that we may participate.

Very few people likely showed up because this topic is quite old, no discussions will resolve the underlying issues and there are more important battles to fight right now other than "race relations (aka racism) in Ward 5."  The fights you guys have had to date should indicate that it is time to move on to other challenges in the ward that can be beneficial.  Sorry!

Subject: [WardFive] Race Relations Discussions

Good Morning,

Even though only a few showed up last night at the Race Relations Discussion, a few very important questions were discussed.  Here are some of the questions -

1.  What was the root cause of Racism here in United States?

2.  How has Racism Changed or Evolved?

3.  In what Ways does it exist today?

4.  How is Racism affecting Black Youth?

Regardless of your Race/Ethnicity, these are some real questions that affect us today. Maybe if we list various examples, this could enlighten each other while a Better Publicized Meeting is Organized
