Subject: Hurricane Sandy Storm Preparation
Good Afternoon,
If you haven't heard yet, there is a monster storm coming up the coast, Hurricane Sandy. Media has already come up with a nickname for this storm, Frankenstorm, since we are close to Halloween.
As you might imagine, we have been constantly monitoring forecasts related to Hurricane Sandy. As has been reported, this event could be quite significant. Pepco began participating in mutual assistance calls on Wednesday to share forecasts and plans. We have activated our emergency teams, and preparatory meetings are under way. Presently, Pepco has about 150 permanent line personnel active and available, as well as an additional 400 contractors working on the system. Contractors have been secured for Saturday to ensure their presence on the system through Sunday. We are in the process of securing our contractors to make certain that they are available for storm restoration. Operational Coordination teams are holding calls to plan weekend schedules.
We are encouraging residents to also prepare for this storm. Pepco has developed a fact sheet to help residents prepare for storms. It can be found at the following location on the Pepco website: http://www.pepco.com/_res/documents/weather_storm.pdf.
We have also developed a storm preparation handbook, which provides detailed information about our restoration process and also outlines various tips to help prepare for a weather event.
It is important to always remember SAFETY. We would like to remind you that if you see a downed wire, stay away from it and report it to our Emergency Line at 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662). You can also use that same number to report outages. In addition, you have the option to report outages online at www.pepco.com or on the Pepco app on your mobile device at pepco.com/mobileapp.
We will provide additional updates as we get closer to the storm.Chris Taylor
