Dear DC Friends,
I am sharing this in the hope that DC people, with or without any direct connection to public schools, will consider speaking up as taxpayers when the DC Council hears from DCPS Chancellor tomorrow,Thursday 1/17, on her final plan to consolidate schools. (blog link with details --http://weacted.wordpress.com). One opportunity to speak up is to call in or email "The Education Town Hall," on We Act Radio, which airs tomorrow at 11 a.m. We hope to hear from a wide cross-section of the District.
Many observers think this consolidation plan could lead in the near future to the end of neighborhood schools. As traditional schools are closed and charters open, the likely result will be that more of our taxes will be directed to private entities, even less transparent and unaccountable than DCPS. And no one -- not even the Washington Post -- can find a positive reason for this plan (links to the Post and other stories in blog link below, FYI).
As a citizen and taxpayer, with a stake in how our neighborhoods evolve, what do you want your representatives to ask?
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments....

----------------TELL COUNCILMEMBERS WHAT YOU WANT ASKED--------------
Please share this invitation to call in to The Education Town Hall, or email in advance, with a question you want the Council to ask Chancellor Henderson tomorrow when she presents her "final consolidation" plan.
The Chancellor will be presenting her plans to the Council, Thursday 1/17 at 1 p.m. Afterward the plan will be released to the general public. There is no evidence that she has so far provided, or that anyone else can find, apparently (see blog) that consolidations would save money or improve educational outcomes. More info here --

So, The Education Town Hall wants to be sure that councilmembers ask what taxpayers want to know. We are trying to ensure that folks from every ward and different walks of life are heard. If you support particular consolidation plans -- either in the Chancellor's draft proposal or community-developed plans -- please let us know that, too.
Please let me know off-line -- vspatz at PObox.com -- if you are able to call in 202-889-9797 between 11:10 and 11:50 tomorrow, 1/17, so we'll have some idea of how many calls to expect. You can also email me -- again: vspatz at pobox.com -- in advance with a question/comment we can read on the air.
Please forward invitation to others who have a stake in our neighborhoods, as citizens and taxpayers, as well as those with direct interest in preK-12 public schools.
Don't forget to listen live, beginning at 11 a.m. tomorrow, 1/17, if you can, www.WeActRadio.com or 1480 AM
