Hello all,

Today are the hearings at the Department of Education on the negative impact of school closures in our communities.  Parents and Students from cities around the country will be testifying today about the negative effect unjust and discriminatory school closures cause and calling for a National Moratorium on school closures. Let's thank Julianne M. Robertson King for giving testimony on behalf of DC!

Seating is tight and not everyone will be able to enter but I will try my best to get any DC folks interested in going in a seat. The hearings begin at 2pm but we are all planning to enter at 1:00pm.  The hearings are taking place at the Department of Education located at 400 Maryland Ave. SW (right across from the Air and Space museum and 1 block from the L'enfant Plaza Metro).

After the hearings we will be holding a procession to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial where we will hold a vigil and press conference.  If you would like to participate in the march and vigil, please join us at 4:00pm in front of the Department of Education.

Additionally starting at 6:00pm we will be hosting a Happy Hour for folks coming in from out of town for the hearings.  We will be at Restuarante Judy located at 2212 14th Street, NW (just a couple of blocks from the U Street Metro Station).  We will be sharing with folks what we are working on here in DC and hearing what folks in other cities are doing to fight school closures.  Hope you can join us!
