I alos made my way to the Wilson Bldg after attending the POTUS swearing-in ceremony. At the ceremony, I was with a W5 resident who is confined to a motorized wheelchair. We took the Red Line to Judiciary Sq. We entered the 3rd St NW Security Checkpoint. Was again disappointed that the Secret Service (SS)didn't have a separate screening line for those with disabilitites. Many were in wheelchairs, on canes, etc that had to get in the same lines as others. Wheelchair motors had to be checked to be sure there wasn't a bomb. Those situations were sometimes congested. But once we got through, the SS blocked Penn Ave so that parade participants could go through, then the President's motorcade to the Capitol. Had great view from the Yellow area.
At the Wilson Bldg, the KPW noted CMs Open Houses, along with the Mayor's Open House was great! Many residents came out to attend. My thanks for a great event!

Subject: [ward5] A spectular day at the Wilson Building to watch the Inaugural Parade Today I managed to make to the Wilson Building riding the Metro rail with a few Ward 5 folks.
This second term for the President's Inaugural was no where as crowded as the first term. Last time, the Metro and the streets were backed. This time riding the Metro was not as bad as daily rush hour. It was peaceful.
Inside, there was food in the offices and plenty of camraderie. It was a very enjoyable date.
We got to talk to and/or visist the offices of:
Councilmember Anita BondsCouncilmember Kenyan McDuffieCouncilmember Vincent OrangeCouncilmember David GrossoCouncilmember Marion BarryCouncilmember Jim GrahamCouncilmember Jack EvansCouncilmember Yvette Alexander
We were disappointed that President Obama and the First Lady didn't walk past the Wilson Building but instead got back in their car and road the rest of the way. Someone surmised that there must be a safety reason or something why they didn't walk past City Hall. Mayor Vincent Gray walked in the parade and of course walked past the building. He carried a Taxation Without Representation poster.
After visiting with the Council, we decided to go outside and watch the parade until the end. It was delightful. I'm looking forward to the next Inaugural parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.
Thank you to all the Councilmembers who were so friendly to the guests that visited the building. Also, note that this date also celebrates the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
It's a good think having the local presence on this national--America's--street, Pennsylvania Avenue.
