Please excuse the spamming but, as paddlers in the DC area, this is something that affects our community. Last year was the first time that women could compete internationally in C-1. World Championships were an awesome demonstration of how dynamic and exciting this class can be.
We have several young women who train at the Feeder canal and Dickerson in C-1 who have either chosen to switch to kayak or not continue in competition partially because of the Olympic Committee's decision not to have a C1W class in the 2016 Olympics. As now, there are 4 men from each country competing at the Olympics in Canoe and Kayak as compared to 1 woman.
Does Change.org work? Not sure about that one. But raising awareness, beginning the conversation about this inequality can only do good. Please read the message below from Pam and decide for yourself where you stand.
Thanks! Ashley
