[WardFive] Education Coalition Response to Education Bills Before the DC City Council

Hello Ward 5!

On June 4th, Councilmember David Catania introduced seven (7) education bills to the DC Council - all of the original legislation can be at http://www.davidcatania.com/schoolreform.

Over the summer, a coalition of citywide education advocacy groups, along with the Ward Five Council on Education, reviewed the bills and crafted a collective response for each of the seven (7) bills. Attached please find the collective response of the coalition.  In addition to the response from the coalition, you can also find the list of signatories (of which the Ward Five Council on Education is one of the signatories), the coalition's principles, and detailed analysis of each of the pieces of legislation.

Earlier this week this document was sent to all of the members of the DC Council and the press. Beyond the development of this document, it is our hope to utilize this effort to lobby our Councilmembers in the coming weeks as these bills come up for discussion and vote.
