[WardFive] Fwd: Street Cleaning on Bates Street, NW

Neighbors,

Below is an email i just sent to our Councilman. He followed  up with me last week and assigned  someone from the staff to work with me on the issue. Unfortunately,  the issue happened  again this morning.

I'm not sure if any other residents  in Ward 5 are dealing  with this same issue but we need to make sure that we are getting the proper  services  from our district  agencies.  If DPW is goinf to ticket  individuals for having  their vehicles  in the street than the streets  shoyld be cleaned  at the proper time. If they arent going to clean them in the time allotted  then they shouldn't  be ticketing  folks.

If this has/is happening  on your street, please shoot out a similar  email with proof if the situation  ao that we can get some results.

Thabk you,

EJJ

Councilman McDuffie,

Last week I tweeted to you as well as the representatives a picture off the unit block of Bates street at 1145.  Street cleaning on the northern side of Bates street is supposed to take place from 0930 - 1130 on Wedensday's.  Last week ticket folks came and gave tickets two times which I saw (a neighbor stated that it was three times) during the two hours reserved for street cleaning.  Unfortunately for us the street cleaning truck didn't come until 1150 in the morning which meant that they couldn't clean the streets because residents had already began to move their vehicles back to that side of the street.  By default our streets had trash all over the place as the truck wasn't able to get in between many of the vehicles legally parked.

Fast forward to this morning and as I returned home at 1129 I noticed that the streets hadn't been cleaned (please see the attached pictures).  I did also notice that several tickets had been given by DPW.  As I was heading in the house at 1138 to send the tweet for this morning and prepare this email I then noticed the street sweeper turning the corner.  The truck arrived at 1138 and proceeded to clean that side of the street.  Of course, vehicles were legally parked and the truck was unable to pick up all of the trash in the way because he was late.

This is completely unacceptable.  Our neighbors are subjected to limited parking and tickets if they don't move their vehicles for street cleaning that doesn't take place.  I'm requesting that all tickets given to vehicles on Bates Street, NW for failure to move during street cleaning be thrown out.  It addition, I'm asking for an explenation to why our streets can't be cleaned in the alloted time.

Thank you,

Eric J. Jones, MSF
