[WardFive] Your feedback is vital

Hello Ward 5!

The District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) process of school modernizations and capital improvement plans have been a huge topic of concern for years. Many communities have been losers while others are considered winners in the process. This win/lose issue is coupled with the fact that exactly how the process works is a mystery and Mayor Bowser's most recent budget has further highlight the inequities that exist surrounding this process.

Although this issue has constantly been discussed, there is renewed interest from Councilmember David Grosso (and the Committee on Education). Last week, Councilmember Grosso proposed new rules for the process and your feedback on these rules is VITAL!

On April 29th, The Washington Post ran an article that discussed the process and ALL of the issues that communities have endured: you can read the article here - New rules would govern how DC public schools fund renovations

Ward 5 has been subject to the issues of the process on several occasions. As the article noted:
"The fund's ward-by-ward analysis shows that under the proposed capital plan, just 2 percent of modernization funds during the next six years would go to schools in Ward 5, and 4 percent would go to schools in Ward 8, both areas with high concentrations of poverty."
We hope that you will log on to Councilmember Grosso's website survey and give your feedback about the new school modernization and capital improvement rules TODAY!  Take the survey: http://www.davidgrosso.org/grosso-analysis/2015/4/29/cip-priorities-fy16

Our voices MUST be heard!
