[WardFive] Fw: All Call to Action - DC Office of Contracts Summarily Dismisses Minority Newspaper's Competitive Bid

It is important that we support this effort against discrimination of minority owned businesses.  I read this article on line a few weeks back.  There were White readers who also commented on this injustice.  The Office of Contacting & Procurement had a relationship w/the Informer for many years.  Commissioner Keith Silver is the contact person on this.

Subject: All Call to Action - DC Office of Contracts Summarily Dismisses Minority Newspaper's Competitive Bid

 Dear Fellow Social Activist,

I am requesting each of your assistance in the matter of Washington Informer newspaper v. D.C. Office of Contracts. I am reaching out to all those who believe in the principles of democracy to join me in a letter-writing campaign to denounce Washington, D.C.'s Office of Contract's unfair (and possibly illegal) practice of not considering, in this case, the Washington Informer newspaper, the opportunity to bid on a thirty-thousand dollar ad contract, because, according to the director of D.C. contracts, the paper's targeted audience is the African American community, as if that makes the paper that is chockful of information less relevant to other racial groups.

While it is too late for the Washington Informer (the contract was awarded to The Washington Times newspaper), it is not too late to fight the discriminatory practice for the sake of future competitive bidders. To  summarily dismiss a bidder predicated on the predominate race of its readership is discriminatory and does not bode well for good ethical business practices.

The Washington Informer is a quality newspaper that is worthy of consideration for any competitive bid that the owner/publisher deems worthy of pursuing. This is a matter of fairness.  The appearance of racial discrimination in any form should not be tolerated.

Together we can make a diference. Please share this e-mail with friends and family and ask them to join you in writing a letter of support for the Washington Informer newspaper

All letters should be e-mailed to the Washington Informer's attorney, Mr. Johnny Barnes by no later than next Tuesday, September 4th.

Thank you,
Charlotte A. Williams, Advocate
Washington Informer newspaper

Johnny Barnes, Esq.
