It is with great sadness that I convey the passing of Reverend Ruth Sutton.  Reverend Ruth is the wife of one of the city's and Ward 5's most humble and heralded servants, Pastor Elijah Sutton, Jr.  Pastor Sutton is the long-time shepherd of the Guildfield Missionary Baptist Church located at 1023 Otis Street, NE.

As most are aware, Pastor Sutton and Guildfield Missionary Baptist Church have a long and rich history, especially in Ward 5.

Guildfield Missionary Baptist Church is a church known to always open its doors, its facilities and yes, even its purse, to all in need.  Pastor Sutton, his wife, Reverend Ruth Sutton and the Guildfield Church members are well-known for such generosities as donating church facilities for meetings (last minute and/or extended meetings), performing weddings and funerals for families not affiliated with Guildfield, unending benevolence to the bereaved or sick, or simply volunteering the church parking lot for those catching the metro.  Free food, clothing, school and household items are mainstays from Pastor Sutton, Reverend Ruth and the entire Guildfield family to all in 5A07, Ward 5 and our entire city.

Please join me in expressing our community's deepest condolences and support at this very difficult to Pastor Elijah Sutton and the Guildfield Missionary Baptist Church on the loss of a greatly beloved wife, mother, grandmother and first-lady - The Reverend Ruth Sutton.

Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.

Very kind regards,
