Prevention Specialist- DC Prevention Center for Wards 5 &6 (Full – Time)
Prevention Specialist will facilitate group training sessions; assist in facilitating community conversations, and conduct ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug) prevention related trainings. All sessions will be conducted using the Strategic Planning Framework Model.Prevention Specialist will also provide support as it relates to community relations, capacity building, logic modeling, planning, recruitment, evaluation, and reporting activities.
Additional requirements of the position include, but are not limited to:
-Maintain familiarity with local services (both within and outside the Agency) that might serve as resources and identify those client needs which require outside referrals and education as it relates to alcohol and drug use.
-Conduct network assessments; train networks and youth, and assist with the development of targeted logic model plans that will specifically meet the needs of identified networks.
-Ensure all facilitated training and activities are culturally competent and age appropriate.
-Provide the highest quality of substance abuse prevention, life skills, education and training for identified networks.
-Maintain systems to ensure consistent, high quality outcomes and services.
-Maintain all documentation, including files, network statistics, and data entry. Ensure that all documentation is accurate, up to date and in compliance with grant requirements.
-Develop and maintain resources and strong working relationships with community based organizations, community residents and youth which make up the neighborhoods in Wards 5 & 6.
-Work collaboratively with our contractual partners (APRA) to ensure grant expectations are being met.
-Compile all required reports and statistics as it relates to prevention services.
-Ensure that community planning efforts are implemented and operational.
-Participate in community conversations in order to report current consistent themes and make recommendations as we move forward with this initiative.
-Recruit and train volunteers for drug abuse prevention programs.
-Create, maintain, and disseminate drug abuse prevention literature (Social marketing campaigns).
-Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Ward 5 & 6 Prevention Center.
A Bachelor's Degree and/or Certificate in Addiction Counseling; and at least 2 years experience with at least 2 years in human service delivery field preferably working with troubled adolescents/young adults and their families; Strong clinical and intervention skills and strong written and oral communication skills.
