So it seems that DCPS is finally trying to figure out how to retain families from closing schools.  It's a little too late in my opinion for these efforts as many have already lost faith in the Chancellor doing anything to actually help DCPS.  Check out this article from the blog Truth Trenches on this matter.  www.truthfromthetrenches.posterous.com

 

As many know from previous emails we have several events coming up to support and build momentum for the lawsuit we will be filing to stop school closures in our city.  In order to make sure we have successful events we really need to get the word out and have some folks who can volunteer to assist in doing outreach and to help out on the day of the events.

 

Following are details on volunteer needs as well as information on the events themselves:

 

• Please distribute and promote the events on the attached flyers at your school, community meetings, church and generally anywhere where folks who may be interested in the issue congregate.  If you are not able to print these out please let me know and we can arrange a way to get flyers in your hand.

 

• Join us on Saturday March 9th for a general community outreach day promoting the upcoming events.  We will go from 12 to 3pm and will most likely focus our efforts in Wards 7 and 8.  If you are available to join us on this date please contact me Daniel at 202-234-9119 xt. 104 or contact me via email.

 

• Sign up to volunteer at either or both of the events on the 14th or 22nd.  Volunteers will help with set-up, clean up, working sign-in and info tables and general tasks that arise through the course of the events.

 

Here are the event details:

 

• Thursday March 14^th – Save Our Schools Summit – 6:30-8:30pm – Temple of Praise (700 Southern Avenue, SE) – Join us for an information session and rally building support for our Lawsuit to stop the planned closure of 15 DC Public Schools impacting over 2,700 students of color.  We will be introducing our plaintiffs from the impacted schools, introducing our legal team, reviewing the legal strategy and building general support for these efforts.  Flyer is attached, please share and distribute widely.  To RSVP for this event please contact me Daniel at 202-234-9119 xt. 104 or via email. 

 

• Friday March 22^nd – An Evening for Education Justice – 5:30-8:30pm – The Park on Fourteenth (920 14^th Street, NW) – We are having this fundraiser to support our lawsuit to STOP school closures in our city.  There will be musical guests (Ayanna Gregory, B Steady, DJ Soyo).  You can purchase tickets for the event ($20) by going to: http://educationjusticeevent.eventbrite.com/ Or, to make a donation go to: http://do.nr/bIr  (flyer is attached please share and distribute)
