DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO SEEK UPDATE ON COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS IMPLEMENTATION AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS REVISIONS
Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a working session on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 4:30 pm at 441 4th Street NW, Room 1112.
As the State Board considers the adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), a working session will be held to review the implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in the District of Columbia to determine what lessons could be learned and applied to the rollout and implementation of NGSS.
The Common Core State Standards are content standards for both English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics that were adopted by the State Board in July 2010. The Next Generation Science Standards are new K-12 science standards that are seen as an important opportunity to improve not only science education but also student achievement.
The State Board will also discuss the status of a draft of proposed rulemaking that would revise the District of Columbia's graduation requirements.
Individuals and representatives of organizations will not be permitted to speak or participate during the Working Session. However, individuals and representatives of organizations may submit written testimony for consideration by the Board. Written testimony may also be submitted by email at sboe@dc.gov.
