The Ward 5 Report
Office of Councilmember Kenyan R. McDuffie
November 15, 2013
Dear Residents,
I recently met with Director Hanlon of the Department of General Services (DGS) and Chancellor Henderson of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) regarding the proposed extended construction hours for Brookland Middle School. We discussed the need for a stand-alone middle school in Ward 5, the impact of a condensed construction schedule on the surrounding neighborhood, as well as the budget constraints resulting from overtime costs necessary to meet an expedited schedule.
As a result of this conversation, and my numerous conversations with residents and education stakeholders, I am hosting an emergency meeting on Saturday, November 16 to resolve concerns about the expedited construction schedule. Meeting details are below.
In Service,

Legislative & Committee Updates
Correction! Last week we inadvertently stated that the Prohibition Against Selling Tobacco Products to Individuals Under 21 Amendment Act of 2013 (B20-0567) was voted on at the November 5 legislative meeting. The bill was introduced at this meeting and referred to the Judiciary Committee; it was not voted on by the full Council. We apologize for the error.
