Great Group Opportunities with Bread for the Citybreadforthecity

There are many great ways for groups of volunteers to get involved over the holidays at Bread for the City. Opportunities include: Clothing Program, help to sort donations, hang and merchandise items, and keep our Clothing Room neat so clients have a dignified experience; Food Pantry, help sort and bag fresh food donations, including fresh produce and bread, which is directly distributed to our clients; Free Farmers' Markets, help bag and distribute fresh produce in an outside market held in the parking lot of our Southeast Center; and Produce Giveaway, help bag and distribute fresh produce in front of our Northwest Center. Learn more at Bread for the City's website or email volunteer@breadforthecity.org.

With the holiday season upon us, Martha's Table has numerous ways for you to "give wisely and wonderfully" in support of their important work: "Bundles of Joy" include arts and crafts and and books, which will be given to each child and family in their education programs; "Winter Wear" includes seasonal outerwear for distribution through their mobile street food program; and emergency food supplies. Support Nueva Vida Toy Drive to Benefit Kids Impacted by Cancer

Nueva Vida, the support network for Latinas affected by cancer, and the DC Cancer Consortium will be collecting toys and gift cards to benefit families that have been affected by cancer. Nueva Vida will accept unwrapped gifts or gift cards or interested individuals or organizations can host a donation bin. Help Capital Area Food Bank Put a "Turkey @ Every Table"cafb1

Thanksgiving meals are a luxury many low-income seniors can't afford and the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) regularly works to fill the meal gap to provide these seniors with nourishing food. Every year, CAFB holds Turkey @ Every Table to provide seniors with a bountiful Thanksgiving meal. This year, CAFB wants to make the greatest impact yet and provide 4,000 senior citizens with holiday meals. Since many seniors are helping to support other family members, it is vital they have enough food for their families, as well. Community of Hope's "Adopt-A-Family" initiative collects Target gift cards for homeless families in their housing programs. Help Community of Hope clients celebrate a joyful holiday season by providing them with gift cards to purchase gifts and food for their families. Join the Capital Area Food Bank & WHUR at Food2Feed!food2feed

Since 2008, the Capital Area Food Bank has teamed up with WHUR-FM - Howard University Radio at Food2Feed to help feed those struggling with hunger in the DC region for Thanksgiving. This is a day-long broadcast, fundraiser, and food drive. At this event, we will collect monetary and food donations in front of the Old Post Office Pavilion. Money raised is used to purchase Giant gift cards, which CAFB distributes to needy families in the Washington Metro Area. Learn more or donate online to Food2Feed.

Support Neighbors in Need at the Salvation Army Feast of Sharing

Join Salvation Army National Capital Area Command and fellow community members to prepare and serve a festive Thanksgiving meal to more than 4,000 DC residents at the annual Feast of Sharing. Opportunities include Prep: Help local chefs prepare the meal and assist in the set up the event venue; Assembling Pipe and Drape: Help set up the stage and curtains for the event; Serving: Serve the Thanksgiving meal and engage in conversation with guests. One of the city's most-anticipated service traditions, the DC Jewish Community Center (DCJCC) Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service's Everything BUT the Turkey event brings together 500 volunteers to prepare 20,000 hearty Thanksgiving Day meals to 100 DC-area social service agencies in partnership with DC Central Kitchen. To keep with the Jewish dietary laws, the Center will prepare "Everything BUT the Turkey" and they hope you will join in on the fun! Deliver Hope this Thanksgiving with Food & Friends' Slice of Life

Thanksgiving isn't complete without PIE! Food & FriendsSlice of Life campaign brings together sponsors, pie sellers and volunteers to sell THOUSANDS of Thanksgiving pies in an effort provide healthy, home-delivered meals to people battling HIV/AIDS, cancer or other life-challenging illnesses. Energetic and dedicated volunteers are critical to the success of Slice of Life. Pre-purchased pies will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, November 26 and volunteers are needed to assist buyers and staff pick-up sites at shifts throughout the day. When signing up, you'll have the opportunity to choose the location and time of your choice. Join Capital Area Food Bank's Annual Stuff-A-Truck Food Drive!cafb2

Join the Capital Area Food Bank, Fox 5, Giant Food and CBS Radio on Friday, December 13 for the 12th Annual Stuff-A-Truck Food Drive. Sixteen Giant stores across the DC metro area will collect non-perishable items to help the food bank feed more than 700,000 residents in need during the holiday season. Volunteers will be asked to brave the cold and greet people when they arrive to drop off food, help collect food from individuals and place into CAFB bins, promote the food drive inside of Giant, and various other tasks. Help at The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Toy Warehouseangel

The Angel Tree Program is one of The Salvation Army's greatest holiday traditions. More than 6,000 children in the DC area are matched to donors who generously provide them with new clothes and toys. The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command (NCAC) needs volunteers to help sort and distribute the Angel Tree gifts at our DC gift warehouse at various weekday shifts from December 9-20. Make a Difference with the DCJCC's December 25th Day of Service

The Washington, DC Jewish Community Center (DCJCC) December 25th Day of Service (D25) is a great way to spend the day with friends and family making a difference at more than 50 social service organizations throughout DC. Each year, thousands of volunteers participate at two- to four-hour service projects, including serving meals, preparing food for the homeless, visiting seniors, painting and throwing Christmas parties.
