[WardFive] Stolen package and New acting 5D commander.

Sharing from TTOP!

First we need to welcome the new acting commander of the 5th District, Diedre Porter. Commander Porter is a Washingtonian and an experienced member of MPD.

Second, our neighborhood is still infested with resident thieves. Yesterday the postal service delivered a package that I was expecting to our door. When my wife returned home she found an open box on the porch, the contents missing. Upon investigation I found a note inside from some our very caring neighbors stating that the box was found in an alley two blocks away from our home at 39 block of 24th Street.

My suggestion to everyone is, that if you can not be home when a delivery is made, sign up with UPS and FedEx to have your packages held at a facility or redirect the delivery if you can. The only caveat is that some shipments start out with the commercial shipping companies and terminate with the postal service for delivery to the addressee. There are also some new delivery services (such as Package Delivery, who use inconspicuous white vans with very little markings on them) that are being used by shippers.

When the USPS is used it is not as easy to have a single package held or redirected.
