[WardFive] Re: [ward5coe] PreK 3-4 matter of right pilot at Burroughs and Bunker Hill ECs

Good evening everyone,

They really need to do a matter of right for all charter schools. It is misleading that it can't be done. It can!  If you are going to get to utilize DC dollars and our buildings, our kids should have the ability to have a priority seating in their own neighborhood/community.  Let's be GREEN about this as well! Where they could walk to or be walked to and from School!

Update: In addition to the conversation about the My School DC lottery at our December Monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 16th we will also have a representative from DCPS, Zaneta Graves (Director of Strategic Enrollment Initiatives), to discuss the recent announcement and implementation of the matter of right PreK 3-4 pilot programs at Burroughs and Bunker Hill Education Campuses.  We have also invited representatives from Burroughs and Bunker Hill to join us for this discussion as well. If you live in the boundaries for one of the schools, or are interested in learning more about this pilot program, we invite you to join us on the 16th for a lively and engaging conversation on this topic. For more information, or to RSVP to attend, please see below.  We hope to see you on the 16th!

Ward Five Council on Education December Monthly meeting agenda:

Are you a parent trying to navigate DC's common school lottery? Have you heard about My School DC but you aren't really sure where or how to get started? Did you participate in the My School DC lottery last year but still have questions that need answers?

Did you know that in the 2015-16 school year DCPS is implementing a matter of right PreK 3-4 pilot for families that live within the boundaries for Burroughs and Brookland @ Bunker Hill Education Campuses?

If the questions above sound familiar, interesting, or apply to you and your family, please join us, the Ward Five Council on Education, for our December meeting (on Tuesday, December 16th) which will focus on helping you navigate and better understand the DC common school lottery - My School DC - AND discuss the PreK 3 and 4 matter of right pilot programs at Burroughs and Brookland @ Bunker Hill ECs. A representative from DCPS will join us to discuss the PreK pilot program. In addition to DCPS, a representative from My School DC will join us to discuss not only how the lottery works but also give some tips on how to approach using the system and ways to navigate the application process. Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to ask the question you've been waiting to ask! (RSVPs are not required but are encouraged)

We hope that you will join us!
