Save the Date for the May Meetup!
A Budget TownHall with At-Large Councilmember Elissa Silverman
Wednesday, May 8th 6:30 - 9:00pm
Shaw's Tavern (520 Florida Avenue, NW)It is time to reform the laws and institutions that allow such corrupt behavior to flourish and to go to the root of the pay-to-play politics that breed corruption.
Accordingly, at the April meet-up, our members decided on using a petition letter campaign calling on the Council to take action to:
- Restrict financial income and investments of Councilmembers from entities that do business with the city
- Abolish the use of constituent service funds and add additional revenue for emergency assistance funds for DC residents
- Ban second jobs for all DC Councilmembers
- Push the Mayor to appoint qualified members of the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (BEGA) and reform it to give it additional oversight powers and resources
Additionally, we plan on hitting the ground and talking to our neighbors to ask them to support our campaign to end pay-to-play.
On May 4th from 11am-1pm we plan to meet at the Dupont Metro Stop (Q Street NW exit) to canvass and talk to residents about our campaign. If you can make it, please RSVP at dcfordemocracy@gmail.com
In Solidarity,
Jeremiah Lowery
DC For Democracy Chair
P.S. Please send a letter and also share with friends and family members and encourage them to send a letter as well.
