Where Are We Going? - Donald Byrd

Hey Neighbor,

Here's a recap of what took place at our SMD meeting last month. Anytime you would like to present at our SMD meeting, feel free to contact me at least a week before the meeting and I can add you or your organization to the agenda.

Our next meeting will take place:

Turkey Thicket Recreation Center
Monday, April 15th (6:30PM)

Once the agenda is confirmed I will share with you via email, social media, and the community post near the CVS.

The Fourth District of our police department provided us with updates about our area, information about the Private Security Camera Incentive ProgramThe Firearm Tip Reward Program, and their online tool The Crime Map. If you would like to join 4D's online community discussion group, you can sign up here.
DaJuan Pitts attended our meeting to request permission to have amplified sound at Turkey Thicket for their 2nd Annual kickball tournament on  Saturday, May 18th beginning at 12:30PM. If you are interested in participating, sign up and additional details can be found via the link! This tournament doubles as a food drive, so please bring non-perishable food items.

Erin Robinson from the HRA provided us with information about the Cat Neighborhood Partnership Program (CatNiPP), as well as a callout for volunteers to help with the Cat Count Program. The Cat Count Program was covered on Friday in the Washington Post.

Anthony Beck also joined us to propose a Farmer's Market this summer at Turkey Thicket. This proposed market would service senior citizens and those looking to make wholesale purchases. My hope is that they will be able to join us at our April SMD meeting to gain more feedback and determine if this market will be beneficial to our community.
Finally, when I ran for this position one of my goals as your Commissioner was to introduce live streaming of our meetings in order to reach constituents who are not able to attend meetings in person. My hope is that these recordings will also be viewable afterwards too. If any 5B05 residents have AV experience and would like to volunteer, please reach out so that we can discuss next steps. I am also open to have a high school student help out if they want to earn community service hours towards their graduation requirement. In the meantime, we will use Zoom to host folks who want to join from wherever they are in Brookland.
