Hello,

Thank you for your ongoing engagement with Providence Health System, especially as we work to transform and deliver healthcare that best contributes to building healthier communities in D.C. In the spirit of continuing open communication and to keep you informed of developments at Providence, I want to ensure you are aware of an important update that supports our patients. As you may know, Providence is ending its hospital services, including emergency care center services, on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

As we move boldly toward a transformation that will better align our offerings with community needs, our goal is to help improve health outcomes overall. We are committed to identifying and addressing gaps in care delivery and transforming healthcare in D.C. to serve the needs of the community—especially for those who live in poverty.

Our new journey is being guided by changes in how people we serve want to access healthcare. The District's recent Community Health Needs Assessment and the DC Health Systems Plan found that the top health concerns of area residents included: managing chronic disease, caring for an aging population, and increasing access to mental and behavioral health services. Since these top health concerns are most effectively addressed in an outpatient setting, Providence is re-investing and redeploying its resources from hospital-based care to primary and community-based services. This will allow us to deliver a new evolution of care that area residents want, need, and deserve.

Following our transition from emergency care, we will soon be opening an urgent care center pending DC Health approval.

While we will no longer be offering hospital and emergency care services after April 30th, Providence is committed to providing care to our community and we will continue to offer the following services:

* Primary care. Same-day and walk-in appointments are available for residents who don't currently have a primary care provider. Appointments can be made at https://providence-ascensionhealth.inquicker.com/primary-care-services.
* Specialized geriatrics care
* Outpatient behavioral health
* Skilled nursing care through Carroll Manor
* My Health GPS (Care coordination for persons covered under Medicaid)
* A working retail pharmacy and access to free medications to those who need it most
* Care for police officers and firefighters

Providence is dedicated to delivering care that best serves our community's needs. I look forward to continuing our discussions throughout our journey. For more information on our transformation and to share your questions, please visit us at ProvidenceHealthyVillage.org.
