DC STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION WELCOMES TWO
NEW STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES AT TONIGHT'S PUBLIC MEETING
Washington, D.C. – The State Board will swear in its new student representatives, Mr. Daniel Spruill and Mr. Jason Perry, at tonight's public meeting. Student representatives, who are non-voting members of the State Board, act as a connection between the student population of the District of Columbia and the State Board.
Daniel Spruill, a student at Friendship Collegiate Academy, is excited to join the State Board because changing lives is central to his beliefs as well as his ability to inspire others to achieve their dreams. He has aspirations of getting into Stanford University, his dream school, and majoring in engineering. After college, he would like to run his own company as well as run for public office. Ultimately, he wants to help change the United States for the better and help as many people as possible.
Jason Perry, a student at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School, wishes to revolutionize public education in the United States. To accomplish this goal, he will use his leadership skills attained from his tenure as the Student Director of the Academic Athletic Achievement Academy and his experience as the Executive Co-Chair of Fundraising for the non-profit, Hands on DC. Mr. Perry hopes to attend either the University of Michigan or Syracuse University to pursue broadcast journalism and political science.
Both Mr. Spruill and Mr. Perry acknowledge their first-hand knowledge of the challenges their fellow students have faced in their education. Both students are ready to share their experience and expertise with the State Board as they fulfill their advisory and approval role.
The State Board looks forward to working with both Mr. Spruill and Mr. Perry as the 2013-2014 student representatives.
Mr. Spruill and Mr. Perry will be sworn in at tonight's public meeting, scheduled for 5:30 pm in the Old Council Chambers (1st Floor) of 441 4th Street NW. All students, parents, and educators, and community members are invited to attend.
