[WardFive] OSSE Scholars applications - Deadline, October 25th

Sorry for the last minute news but better late than not sending

2014 OSSE Scholars application is now available. OSSE Scholars provides high-achieving, academically motivated, students who exhibit financial need with the opportunity to attend selective summer college programs. If selected as an OSSE Scholar and admitted to a summer program, OSSE provides full funding for tuition, room and board, books, and transportation.

Below, please find information about this year's program, including some changes. I strongly recommend that students and parents review the Frequently Asked Questions. If you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. We look forward to meeting your students and selecting the next talented class of Scholars. Thank you for your support!

Who is eligible to apply?
Students must:
. Attend a District public or charter high school
. Be a sophomore or junior for the 2013-2014 school year
. Be a resident of the District of Columbia
. Be a citizen or legal resident of the United States
. Have at least a 3.0 GPA
. Have financial need. Please note that this is a need-based program and students may be asked to demonstrate income requirements in order to qualify. OSSE may consider a number of factors, including but not limited to: free and reduced lunch eligibility, Pell eligibility, eligibility for public assistance, and public housing eligibility.
OSSE also reviews student academics, community involvement, maturity level and commitment to the university program and higher education.

As in previous years, if multiple students from your school apply, we will work with you to set up on-site interviews so that the students can complete them during the school day.

2014 changes:
The OSSE Scholars application deadline is October 25, 2013

This year's application includes a brief personal statement-students will select one of two questions and submit an up-to-250 word response.

The application also asks for, but doesn't require, standardized test scores if available. Many of our partners use these in admissions decisions, so having a student's scores will help us make a better match to a school.

Please visit http://osse.dc.gov/service/osse-scholars-summer-enrichment-program for more information and this year's application.
