Re: [WardFive] Fw: Where your donations go

Friends:  re:  Goodwill

As registered non profit all of goodwills information including salaries are public information and must be available to all of us on demand.  The IRS by law demands that all non profits fill out form 990 it is a full disclosure.  You can go to, www.guidestar.org to see it and lots of other information aboiut them as well.  When you do this you will be surprised at just how much some Exec. Dir. actually make in large non profits ...a half million is not  that uncommon and some (not too many) make a lot more.

If you go to guidestar you can see exactly what Mr. Curran makes every year!

Hello everyone,

So where does Goodwill's profit go. We know that Goodwill pays nothing for their merchandise, pays their workers and their other expenses, there is a profit left over.  Does he donate that profit.  If he doesn't, what does Mark Curran do with that profit.  How much is his salary? Understanding the programs, jobs, etc. that Goodwill provides, that we can all appreciate.  However, the answers to the above questions would better determine the reality of this well intended organization as it relates to what is pocketed Mr. Curran.

Goodwill is a very catchy name for his business. You donate to his business and then he sells the items for PROFIT. He pays nothing for his products and pays his workers minimum wage! Nice Guy.
$0.00 goes to help anyone!!!

Lilian,

As someone who has worked with the Goodwill of Greater Washington for at least the last five years on projects that benefit local residents I can tell you that this is spin that shouldn't be circulated.

The heads of all organizations get paid well to stay in those positions. Our local goodwill works directly with folks in our city and more specifically our ward. To turn their backs on them for the salvation army which locally is based out of MD would be doing a disservice to our own.

This is very interesting. I didn't realize this about Goodwill. I do know that if you go into a Goodwill now, the prices are shocking. It's more like a retail store then a thrift shop! Anyway, I thought this was worth passing on.
Think about thesebefore you donate.
As you open your pockets to do a good thing and make yourself feel good, please keep these facts in mind:

The American Red Cross

President and CEO Marsha J. Evans salary for the year was $651,957 plus expenses

MARCH OF DIMES
It is called the March of Dimes because only a dime for every 1 dollar is given to the needy.

The United Way
President Brian Gallagher receives a $375,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits.

UNICEFCEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,200,000 per year (100k per month) plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE. Less than 5 cents of your donated dollar goes to the cause.
