[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Backflow Preventer Rebate Program Available in Certain Neighborhoods (Wash. Informer)

The sewage has to come up some place - this will only solve it in those l"ocations" - so extended neighbors should take precautions.

Backflow Preventer Rebate Program Available in Certain Neighborhoods

DC Water is offering a rebate program for residents of Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park affected by recent flooding that purchased and installed backflow preventers. The rebate program will cover 90% of the cost of the backflow preventer device and installation, up to $3,000. DC Water will send out information on the program in late August to eligible property addresses.

The rebate program is retroactive to July 1, 2012. If you are installing a backflow preventer or have had one installed since July 1, it is imperative that you keep an itemized receipt from a DC-licensed plumber and the barcode from the box of the device. DC Water anticipates starting to send out rebates in mid-September.

The DC Plumbing Code requires a permit for the installation of a backflow preventer, which must be obtained by a DC-licensed master plumber. Residents that had a backflow preventer installed without a permit or by a non-DC licensed plumber since July 1, 2012 must do the following to qualify for the rebate:

1. Get a DC-licensed master plumber to pull a permit for the work that was already performed. A licensed plumber can obtain a postcard plumbing permit via our website.

2. Request a DCRA inspection of the work by calling 202-442-9557.

3. Submit to DC Water the approved inspection report and the rest of the DC Water rebate paperwork.

Residents who have not yet installed a backflow preventer can use the same process outlined above.
