[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Re: Councilmember McDuffie Moves Ward 5’s Great Streets Forward

Hello everyone,

Even though I am a supporter of Kenyan and believe that he is a good dude, I don't believe in praising folks for doing something that is inevident and easy.  These are where his strongest support groups live and where developers are licking their chops for "tif" money here.  Had Kenyan spoken up (instead of squeaked) against the Car Barn, for Librarians, against school Closings, attended the 1st Ward 5 Education meeting to hear about our Concerns, spoke up for Ivy City, not held a close door meeting yesterday regarding Ivy City, etc., I would be more apt to share in the "enthisuim.

Most important, I am concerned about our Kids over the next 5 years while we wait for the "Middle School" bricks to suddenly save them.  As I understand, BS smoke and mirror games are already in the forefront of the Ward 5 Middle School conversations and it looks like we will be losing another Generation.

This Flooding in Bloomingdale needs to be addressed and even when the "Back Flows" are installed, the flooding is still going to occur in the streets and may surface two blocks down. Someone told me that when Metro Stations were put in, the flooding increased around Rhode Island Ave.  I don't know how true that is but I do know Giant's (Rhode Island Ave) Parking lot floods as well and that is on higher ground.  The problem is that Feces will probably end up in the street and people and cars will be infected and affected.

Agreeing to supplement Large Development in these areas is somewhat a concern when there is no answer to our current over burdened Storm Water/Sewer system.  At some point, the focus is going to be small businesses development with funding to allow for fairness.  I can't even open my mouth to say 12th Street as other streets and communities in Ward 5 are in worse condition.

Knowing that folks in that office are working many hours to understand their new surroundings, dodge the sharks and stay within the lines to be more than 2 years, I don't want to be too critical but enough to motivate.  I just think that this "Rolling Sleeves up" marketng is somewhat weak as you don't get credit/respect for doing "Easy" and repaying your support bases.

Somewhat Dissappointed thus far but looks like he is growing,

Jamie, you do have a point. Two members of the Councilmember's staff are from the RIAve area and they are also with Friends of Rhode Island Ave. Not sure about other staff. We have several ANC positions along RIA up for grabs. Sign are going up along RIA. HMmm?! Just an observation. Whatever goes down on every and any levels, all the community groups must work together.

I believe everyone wants our Ward to be a great place to Live, Work and Play. If not, you can start packing your bags now!! Got to get back to work. TWYL.

Yes KPW, it would have been nice to see others included in this act. I'm not really surprised given CM & staff live in these areas and have been actively involved with these efforts way before the special election. I'm waiting to see when a balance will strike with many of these efforts.

Benning Road could use a little help, too.

Is there a plan in place for New York Avenue or is that evolving on its own?

Glad to see our councilmember trying to move Ward 5 forward.  He will get stronger and the other councilmembers will really come to him to politic and trade in a positive way for his vote.

KPW

Very exciting!  And a testament to all of the individuals and groups working to highlight these two areas.
