Ward 5 Highlights:

The Ward 5 Industrial Land Transformation Task Force Holds Its Kick-Off Meeting

On February 27, the Ward 5 Industrial Land Transformation Task Force held its inaugural meeting. Members were sworn in by Darryl Gorman, Director of the Office of Boards and Commissions (OBC), and discussed innovative ways of transforming Ward 5’s industrial land.

“I am very excited that we are beginning the work of transforming the industrial land in Ward 5,” said Councilmember McDuffie. “It is important that we not only see change that benefits new residents, but change that benefits current residents. I am looking forward to working with the Task Force over the next few months to make sure we develop a comprehensive plan that every resident in Ward 5 can be proud of.”

The task force, established by Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D) and Councilmember McDuffie, looks to develop a strategic and forward-looking plan to transform these industrial areas into a magnet for green and creative businesses, create jobs for a variety of skill levels, and provide the amenities and services desired by residents. The Task Force is expected to submit a draft report to the Mayor and the Council by January 31, 2014.
