[WardFive] Concern " Watch Your Verizon Bill"

Good afternoon,

ANC 5B01 next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 6:30pm.

Our guest will come to answer some questions related to our Verizon bills.  See the letter below from one of our neighbors about Verizon and Slamming.

Plan to come and bring your neighbors.

Good morning Shirley,

I thought I'd share this info with you. I feel that it's something that should be brought to the attention of all Verizon bill payers and seniors especially.

While reconciling my Verizon bill, I realized that the bill has been fluctuating.  I contacted the company and requested their help to understand why the fluctuation.  A Verizon employee, Lashae, position number 11Z135190, said with brass in her voice “it’s because you have a roll over payment from your previous bill."  Rather than go through the 2 hour conversation on the phone with she and one of the supervisors it was discovered that my line had been "slammed by a long distance provider, USBI". USBI then submitted their charges to Verizon to be placed on my Verizon bill without any communication with me.  The supervisor said this is called "Slamming".  If you are not diligent when reconciling your bills you can end up paying for something you never requested.

The sitting supervisor said the amount on the bill was not from a roll over payment.  The amount had been placed on the bill by "USBI" He apologized for her saying "it was on the bill because the amount was due from the previous billing."

Shirley, if you think this information can be of benefit to our seniors please share it with them. Perhaps you may suggest that they check their bills for any payments to USBI on their Verizon bill.

Pepco is asking for another increase.
