[WardFive] Fw: Councilmember Tommy Wells Mark up Bill 20-107 to Criminalize Elder Financial Exploitation by use of undue influence

Would appreciate the Ward's assistance in getting this important bill to Committee Mark-Up, then for a vote by the entire DC Council before the last Council legislative session.

This bill will have far reaching effects on how our Senior Citizens are treated by DC Superior Court appointed out-of-state attorneys (Yes, that is and has been happening), provides financial protections and other benefits that these appointed attorneys have been taking away from the client, especially with isolating the client from their supportive family members.

The below is from Carolyn Nicholas, the late CM Hilda Mason's daughter.  We've all heard about how Hilda & Charlie Mason was abused & taken advantage of while under a court-appointed legal guardian.  This person had no respect for "the Grandmother of the World's" legacy, just saw what they could get without accountability, and did so, without a care about the Masons healthcare, personal care.  Shameful!!!

B20-107: Criminalize Elder Financial Exploitation could help stop these unethical practices.  If its not stopped now, when will it and how many other people without name recognition have to be hurt, abused in the process?

Please add your name to the below petition and if you don't mind, share with others  throughout DC to get the desired results.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!!

Thanks!

Hi,
I created a petition to DC Councilmember Tommy Wells, DC Councilmember which says:
"The National Center on Elder Abuse has declared elder abuse, including elder financial abuse/exploitation, an under-recognized problem with devastating and eve life-threatening consequences, and encourages dynamic involvement from not only the aging services and affiliated networks but also from the public at large to recognize elder abuse and take action in preventing it.   "
Will you sign this petition? Click here:
Thanks!
