[WardFive] Marion Barry -African Sister Cities Program

Marion believed and had FAITH.  That is why Marion has won again. He has done what we all have to do.

Marion and I had been friends over 40 years. We traveled to Senegal and other African countries.  He started the FIRST AFRICAN SISTER CITIES PROGRAM in 1982. The protocol of exchange and our 501c 3 status was in 1985.  He always supported our organization. The student ambassadorship program allowed our DC Public School children to travel and networked with students from Atlanta and Chicago on their home stays and educational tours of Senegal and Morocco.  We annually had a DC-Dakar Day where professionals from various fields shared with middle school students what they would need to be prepared for positions around the world.  With Marion’s help we started the US Africa Sister Cities Foundation, Inc.

Marion remained a friend to the African Ambassadors.

DC-Dakar is still active last spring we hosted the 15 mayors from Senegal and last November had a group to travel to Senegal.

Attached are some pictures of past activities and persons that supported us.
