Jake,
I don't remember you speaking up when actual physical threats were made against me -- but you should tell us how to write responses to things that are offensive to us - remember, in almost all expression, we are responders to the Perpetrators.
Anyways, now that you have localized Racism and Hypocracy to being "rampant" in Ward 5 -- Did you read or hear about anything over the last year that was Racism and Hypocracy that you would like to share? We did our best to identify it, describe it, share it. Isn't there anything, anything at all that you would like to agree with that would specify Racism and Hypocracy in Ward 5? Or maybe you can say that it hasn't occured in 1.5 years.
Eg. "The mural is ugly. It isn't real art. I know what Real Art is". Linda Sun ---- and there was someone who was talking about Colonel Brooks coming down and made the statement hoping that the Mural would be next. There is nothing wrong with saying the Mural is Ugly - but the big question is why?? When the Why is "it isn't real Art and I know what Real Art is", then that links very strong to Racism.
EG. - Kind of like the demand tones "Now" and the "What" iaddressed to Hazel about the Vendors in the Farmers Market that you and the rest decided to accept as soft tones. Are those the tones that you are admonishing us for but so willing left unaddressed a few days go - or you are going to tell me like some others -- "I don't read the list serv much" but yet that person knew everything that I referenced on different topics.
But you and many others seem to have to hear the "N" word or maybe see a noose or the person being dragged by a truck to Pin the Racist/Racism word but deny all the other instances.
So allow me to teach you something. There is a level of racism that usually get's overlooked by Blacks -- Kind of like the level of lead in the Water that comes to your faucet. When that "lead" Rises above a certain level, it becomes more toxic and needs to be treated.
I, Mr. Peloquin, Commissioner Ransom and others are treatment plants. There is no easy way to say that there is "Lead" in the Water and the Level is Toxic. And for White Folks who are actively Purporting Safety, Community, Restaurants, Cafe's, Business, Health, etc. to continue to be in denial that it is toxic, excuse it, re-read entire transcripts to somehow find another reason than the HUGE RACIST ELEPHANT in the Room is more Abrasive, Disrespectful, Hateful, Unsafe expression.
I didn't have TV (not because of poverty) when I was growning up so I had to picture the Words in the Books that I read. So, I can't help seeing your and others avoidance to Racism and Racists acts in our Community but yet so many of you want to talk about being humane to Dogs and Cats, etc. See the Problem. Maybe if you avoid it long enough it will go away!! Well, it is 2012 and Our Country is still Divided -- just look at the people in the Conventions. THAT MANY WHITE people must be some of the most STUPID WHITE PEOPLE in the Country to want to be part of the Democratic Party (Sarcasm).
Just by looking, One Party represents what America was founded for and the other is almost totally NON-EMBRACING -- just look at the color/culture/racial make up. So ignoring things just isn't the answer. Just imagine if Whites Stood Up and Called the Protest Against the Cafe for what it is --- Racist/Prejudice, I guarantee that these people won't do it again. But because you tolerate it, defend it and habitually continue to deny it, they feel empowered and will continue.
As for Mr. Peloquin (Jerry) -- He has more Kahunas (since you like foreign language) than you and the rest ever could get in 5 lifetimes. It takes courage to do what he and I have done even though we know that we will be labled "Horrible"/Violent (only me Racist) etc.
I close with this - remember the Truck Stabbing incident by young Black Female and the Stoning of the House followed by the question "what could this man (who was White) have done to deserve this". Well, the same thing that a Black could have and would have been blamed for if this exact action was taken by a White Girl and the Man was Black in Georgetown.
But hey - In Ward 5, you have No DOUBT that Racism and Hypocracy is everywhere - It just hasn't been Identified By Rob Ramson and Jerry Peloquin in that Last 1.5 years - of course, because those words make you and the others feel unsafe. You and Luke and the rest should go ask your Black neighbors (Newcomers and Old Timers) if they have ever felt unsafe or us not having "good will".
Like I always tell folks, when you meet me, if you don't like me, I understand. If you don't Love and Respect me after knowing me for 1 year, then the problem is you - Guaranteed. You don't have to like me or like the way I say and do things but LOVE and Respect is a whole different Level - leaving me some room for mistakes, being wrong and not being perfect. For months, if not years, now, you and Rob have done everything in your power to make some of us feel that the Ward 5 listserv is not safe space.
I have no doubt that racism and hypocrisy are rampant in Ward 5, as they sadly are everywhere, but to me your tone on this listserv is not, and has not been, one of inquiry or of honest dialogue. I hope that will change.
Best,
Jake
