[WardFive] Re: Truth and falsehoods (was Re: [Brookland] Re: Monastery-

Oh WOW!!!  Really.  Publically accused of being a "LIAR" -  Golly Gee Batman - does this sort of thing really offend and necessitates such a response!!!  and in all caps -

"Silence Speaks Volumes"  - really!!!  I heard that "Silence when one should respond" is rampant in Ward 5.

To me, one important point is that I am being publicly accused of being a liar. I have asked the two people who made those claims to quote where I allegedly told falsehoods. Their silence speaks volumes.

I think another point is that if there had been more community involvement, I think that a better solution could have been reached than to pave that lot. Apparently there was a push by some folks (how many? I don't know) to have the Monastery pave the lot, and one writer said that instead of complaining now, after the trees were cut, we who are concerned now should have been at the meetings. I asked that writer if he/she had informed folks on Randolph Street; no response. No-one on my block (1300 Randolph) or on adjacent block (13th between Quincy and Randolph) that I have spoken to was notified of any such series of meetings or of any parking issue. If we had been informed, I bet we could have come up with a better answer. It's awfully hard to go to meetings that you don't even know exist!

Your statement, Eric, is inaccurate where you write, "you continued to look for ways to stop them." The trees were already cut! Again, please quote the text of any of my posts if you care to refute me.

I am not Mr. Wolkoff and don't even know what he looks like; neither one of us speaks for the other.  I was the original poster on this topic, after being notified by neighbors and family; he posted considerably later.

Guy - you are missing the point here. The monastery followed all of the laws of the city and even provided that to you during your deposition of Br. Sebastian. Then, after you did inform the community, you continued to look for ways to stop them. Mr. Wolkoff turned it into a conspiracy that the Catholic Church is looking to ruin the neighborhood - I am surprised we didn't get some treatise here about all of the noise from the chainsaws were affecting his mental health.

Look - they followed the law and I am sure it was most disturbing to them as they are more dedicated than anyone in this community to gardening and tree hugging. I appreciate your compassion, but I do think you were trying and did take the conversation too far.

It started with dramatic uninformed accusations against two of our neighborhood's best citizens (the monastery; Ronald McDonald House), went forward with what can best be called erratic screeds from regular list serve flame throwers and entered the denouement with a single post with an explanation of what actually happened.
