Re: [WardFive] Fw: [ward5] Report: D.C. Stinks At Getting Residents Hired in Construction Jobs (Loose Lips)

Commissioner,

There in lies the problem, you are speaking in Opinion and not facts.  Instead of actually gaining an understanding of my statement and asking what I meant you instead went on the an attack which you can't substantiate when the sad fact is that much like the report your statement is fill with gaps.

First, my statement had nothing to do with striking fear anyone.  I never have and never will seek to strike fear in anyone by statements as those are petty and feeble minded activities.  Maybe you mind went there because that is how you operate along with your cowardly soft attacks but that is not part of my standard operating procedures.

As to the report the facts will show that the slanted report by the local branch of the LiUNA who if you had done research was marred in several scandals two years about for taking out false advertisements, attacking companies and flat out falsifying information is in no way factual.  Much like their previous actions this report puts out information which are flat out lies in hopes of trying to prove a point while at the same time truly working to build their membership base which is the ultimate goal of LiUNA.

Now as it relates to the local a construction workforce once again I would advise that you actually do the research.  It has been clearly studied and stated that the local construction workforce is less than 12k jobs and hasn't seen a major increase in at least 5 years.  Even with such large projects such as the Convention Center Hotel, City Center Project, St. Elizabeth's East West Campus (DHS), O Street Market, etc you have seen a recycling of previously employed individuals without a great increase in skilled trades men and women.

Likewise because of the current Journeymen to Apprentice ratios within the city which mandate that you have at least 3 Journeymen for each Apprentice working on a job site the number of new individuals or non skilled individuals will continue to be behind places such as Baltimore, Philly, etc where the ration is 1 to 1 which means that you can have more individuals on jobs who are gaining on the job training or may not be as skilled.  This of course isn't covered in the report because it doesn't help to serve the purpose of it nor is it something that you ever talk.  This compounded with the fact that the number of licensed Journeymen who live and work in DC continues to be stagnant.  Partially because of the way in which DCRA has provided the option to become licensed in the past 10 or so years which has been a horrible failure in comparison with all neighboring jurisdictions.  This is why we have recently moved through the council our second journeyman equality bill which would allow individuals who have been licensed and verified from a neighboring area to obtain a waiver and pay the cost to become licensed much like you can do in neighboring areas.

Now back to your understanding of the legislation and greater law it would be great if you truly had a real understanding of such but you truly don't which is why your continued statements are problematic.  Your baseless statement about me living in this city is even more comical with you stating that I have a form of cloaked hatred for someone. You speak of me possibly thinking that residents of this great city (the home of my family for four generations) are less than me.  I think the real issue isn't what I think but how you truly feel about your self as I have never and will never say that my neighbors, friends and family are less than anyone.  I have never let those words come out of my mouth and the fact that you would try to assign that to me is even more of an insult.

Now as it relates to how I can sleep at night I sleep well every night because my history and track record speaks for its self.  In all your years an elected official in Ward 5 and Ward 6 before that I have never and will never have an issue putting my record up to task because I know of my work and know the progress it has and will continue to make.  I see first hand the neighbors, friends and strangers who I have helped and continue to help conjunction with other dedicated residents of this city and I will continue to work to make sure that not only are the businesses in my hometown treated fairly and logically but also that in doing so we do so to make it better for all of our residents and not just try to pit one group against the other as poverty pimps continue to do.

So while you keep on with your unsubstantiated statements and cowardly false attacks just know that I will continue to fight for issues which are fair and just to all not just a certain electorate or specialized group.
