I'm forwarding this along from the Brookland list. What started as a group of folks in Brookland working under the Civic Association to work toward statehood has now expanded to a ward-wide effort (with the plans of growing city-wide). I encourage anyone interested in statehood for DC to get in touch with Josh, who is doing tremendous work to organize citizens toward statehood and equal representation for DC

Hi All,
On Saturday, January 12th, 2012, Ward 5 Neighbors for Statehood will have its kick-off meeting at 10am in Brookland (at a private residence so if you plan on attending just email me directly for the exact location). This group is for anyone interested in getting involved in the grassroots movement to achieve DC Statehood. Presently, there are other 'Ward _ Neighbors for Statehood' groups being formed in all 8 Wards in the District as part of a large citywide effort to get all 130+ neighborhoods in all 8 Wards active and engaged in the movement for full and equal citizenship rights through statehood. Members of the Brookland Neighborhood Civic Association's DC Statehood Committee will be present at the meeting to share information on their great work which has been the spark and model for a more expansive Ward-wide and citywide organizing effort.
If you're interested in learning more about the statehood movement or finding out what you can do to help, join us on Saturday at 10am or contact me directly off the list for more information. While we will have meetings every month it's the work that happens in-between meetings that's the most important. For more information on the meeting follow this link: http://wp.me/p1xdSF-iN
We are a non-partisan group open to all who are interested in achieving statehood for the residential and commercial portions of the District.
Hope to see you or hear from you soon,
Josh Burch
