Last month despite community and stakeholder outcries, Chancellor Henderson decided to move forward with a plan to close 15 DC Public Schools. This decision does not solely affect the close to 3000 students who will see their neighborhood schools close as a result, but rather it affects all of us. These closures impact the health and landscape of our neighborhoods, impacting our property values, voting precincts, meeting locations, and educational options for both current and future parents.
The Ward 7 Education Council passed a moratorium supported by Ward 7 Parents, PTAs, our Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander, Ward 7 SBOE Representative Karen Williams, the Ward 7 Democrats, numerous ANCs, and most importantly YOU!!!
We are supporting EmpowerDC in their legal action ask you to show your support as well.
Thursday March 14th – Save Our Schools Summit – 6:30-8:30pm – Temple of Praise (700 Southern Avenue, SE) – Join us for an information session and rally building support for our Lawsuit to stop the planned closure of 15 DC Public Schools impacting over 2,700 students of color. We will be introducing our plaintiffs from the impacted schools, introducing our legal team, reviewing the legal strategy and building general support for these efforts.
Take action by attending and sharing this email with others. Please forward to at least 10 DC residents, especially in Wards 5, 7, and 8, which have born the brunt of these closures, or to parents with school age children.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Ward 7 Education Council
