To All Concerned,
Regarding our Proposed Ward 5 Arts Middle School:
1. Why isn't Rae Zapata as upset as the rest of the community with DCPS/DGS (whoever) for suggesting the CO-USE of Turkey Thicket?
2. Did Rae know about it prior to the community? and was this part of the agreement she made?
3. If this really allows for Community Involvement, why is Rae upset with the Community for voicing our opinions? Isn't that why it was presented to us??
4. I don't remember the Community Choosing Brookland -- I remember that SITE (Not Turkey Thicket) being made as one of the three locations of Middle Schools.
5. If it is not feasible to build a "State of the Art" Middle School on the Brookland Elementary School Site, doesn't it make sense that DCPS re-allocate a different site for our Middle School -- where the Architect is not trying to fit so much into half of the required space.
6. Why are we Married to that Site for this Middle School?
7. Is there really no other LOCATION that we can transfer all the work that the SIT Team, W5COE and DCPS put into having a Middle School -- if giving us a ARTS Middle Schools is really their focus and not forcing us to accept Brookland Elementary as a Middle School.
8. Why is this being presented if our input is being discarded?
I am really confused as to the behind the scenes interactions, the feeling that the community needs to just accept Rae's Opinion as if she speaks for everyone, and why a Architect continues to put designs forth that the Community clearly doesn't want.
At the end of the day, if the overwhelming Community gives this a Thumbs Up, So be it. But let's us not have it forced down our throat.
Really Tired of fighting for simple rights and respect. Like Kathy H. said, DCPS won't try this crappy approach in Certain Areas!! Why Here??
