Pro-Tip: When half the group goes left at Pete Morgan and the other half goes right, the correct line is not to split the difference and go down the middle.
Pro-Tip #2: At 5.5ft, Pete Morgan would make for a nice rock spin... if you're Pat Keller.
Pro-Tip #3: Hand paddles are rarely useful sitting in a rubbermade bin in the back of your car.
Thanks for the fun day!

For the second run, we put on with nine hardy souls just around 5:30. We put in at Teter's campground access to miss the first 1/2 mile or so of flat water, and we were pretty quickly into some big, fast-moving wave trains. All of the rapids began to blend together in both the literal sense and the sense of "oh god, I'm tired, cold, and where the hell am I now?"
For those of you who have not raced the Cheat before, there's an interesting quality to paddling that canyon toward sunset where you're paddling almost directly into the setting sun, which just adds a bit of drama and intrigue to the trip, especially when the water is at 5'+ and rising steadily.
At 5'+, we snuck down the left of Big Nasty with no trouble. High Falls rewarded the on-line paddler with some fantastic views of crashing wave-holes that you were glad to be clear of. Upper Colosseum was also run down the left by all but Andrew McQ. Lower Colosseum into Pete Morgan was chaotic and a bit hard to get a good read on. This led to a broken paddle at the bottom of the last drop. Sadly, we had nine people and not a breakdown paddle in sight. Fortunately, one of the yoots took this as a challenge to practice his C1 technique, and we continued on our merry way.
Even with a stop for that little mishap, we made it down to the bridge not long past 7. The yoots, along with a few "adults" entertained themselves on the group W bench building a campfire and playing with the pencils and all kinds of things.
I highly recommend a second run at some point if you feel like getting home at 11 is just too dang early.
